How Eyeglass Measurements Work

Eyeglass measurements are usually shown in millimeters (mm). Small differences can change how a frame feels on your face, so comparing measurements is often more useful than relying on a general size label alone.

Frame Width

Frame width is the overall width of the front of the glasses from one outer edge to the other.

This measurement can help you compare how wide a frame may feel across your face.

Lens Width

Lens width is the horizontal width of one lens at its widest point.

It is often one of the main numbers used to describe frame size.

Lens Height

Lens height is the vertical height of one lens.

This measurement can affect the overall look of the frame and may also matter for certain lens types.

Bridge Width

Bridge width is the distance between the two lenses where the frame sits across your nose.

A bridge that is too narrow or too wide may affect comfort and frame position.

Temple Length

Temple length is the length of the arms of the glasses from the hinge toward the ear.
